Tantalum Ta can be found in Columbite, and Tantalite. Tantalum is used for medical applications because it's biologically inert, is the latest material for capacitors in integrated circuits and is used to improve structural integrity in turbine blades. KEY CHARACTERISTICS OF TANTALUM

Tantalum has high melting and boiling points and excellent corrosion resistance, and is non toxic to the human body. It has the highest capacitance per volume of any substance. It is very malleable and ductile, with high formability and weldability.

  • OXIDISATION RESISTANCE
    Below 150 degrees C Tantalum does not oxidise and therefore has perfect protection against rust.
  • HIGHLY MALLEABLE AND DUCTILE
    It’s also malleable and ductile which means it can be hammered into thin layers and drawn into wires.
  • HIGH CAPACITANCE
    The capacitance per volume of tantalum is the greatest of any substances.
  • EXCELLENT CORROSION RESISTANCE
    Tantalum is almost completely immune to chemical attack at temperatures below 150°C, and is attacked only by some acids.
  • HIGH MELTING POINT
    Only a few other elements like tungsten, carbon, osmium and rhenium have higher melting points than tantalum’s 3017 degrees Celsius.
  • HIGH BOILING POINT
    At 5455 degrees C Tantalum also has a very high boiling point, one of the highest amongst metals.
  • EXCELLENT THERMAL CONDUCTION
    Tantalum has excellent thermal conduction.
  • EXCELLENT ELECTRICAL CONDUCTION
    Tantalum is a superconductor of electricity.
